Bananas & Blueberries

I wanted to make sure that the kids were able to have some fun and learn something too. Everybody I know loves food, and two of Lucy’s favorites are blueberries and bananas. Since we’re talking about the letter B and we’re making lots of buh-buh sounds, why not associate those things with something else they’re already familiar with (and love)?

Book

Once again I was missing the book I wanted to use (Piranhas Don’t Eat Bananas), so we improvised and used “Bear Wants More” instead.

Bear starts with B too and he eats blueberries in the book, so it worked.

Flashcards

We’re still light on the flashcard review, but they were better about doing it today. Nixon was even into it and gave me “baby” right away. Then they gave me more words that started with B – bubbles, breakfast, bear, blueberries, burrito, lots of words – it was great!

Song

The song we tried today was “Apples and Bananas.” It’s a little ahead of where we want to be right now because of all of the vowel sounds they’re not familiar with, but we gave it a shot anyway. Lucy was find with it but Nixon was still in his “no music” mood so we only made it through the song twice before we moved on to our coloring page.

Activity

I couldn’t find a coloring page that had both bananas and blueberries on it, so I made my own. I found some clip-art online and put the two pieces together in a Word document.

They sat and colored for about 10 minutes and then they were done and ready for some play time.

All Done!

Short, sweet, and to the point, and both participated and at least tried. I call it a success.

Oh, and we had bananas and blueberries with our lunch. Yum!
