Writing to Heal

Writing to Heal

Today in Relief Society, we discussed this talk given in General Conference last month called “Thru Cloud and Sunshine, Lord, Abide with Me!” It was one of my favorites from October’s conference.

As part of our discussion, we talked about some of the things that we struggle with, in general of course. It wasn’t a confession session or anything like that, just a list of things that people struggle with. Things like…

  • Illness
  • Aging
  • Loss (spouse, child, etc.)
  • Divorce
  • Infertility
  • Spiritual strength
  • Self-worth
  • Etc.

It was a great list of things that weren’t really your typical answers. I love it when we get away from the typical and get REAL.

The discussion leader then asked us how many of these things people suffer in silence.

Depending on the person, any one of them could be.

Then we started talking about how we can heal from them. I’ve realized it before, but today I had another one of those “lightbulb moments.”

I was reading ahead a little bit and came across this portion of her talk:

When I actually heard her say these words, back in October, this website was little more than a thought. I wasn’t sure I really wanted to put so much “out there.” I mean, it’s not like I’m super private about it or anything like that – it’s that it’s online. It’s out there for the whole world to see. When she said that though, I knew I needed to share.

When I first started sharing my story a few years back, I thought it was just to help someone else, and I sincerely hope that it does. But writing down my thoughts, especially more recently, has also helped me to heal. Going through the way I feel about things and putting words to my feelings has helped to validate some and alleviate others. There are still a few pretty deep seeded infertility related pains that I’m continuing to work through, but sharing my experiences, thoughts, impressions, findings, etc., has really helpedĀ me.

So, thank you for reading. Thank you for caring enough to check-in on me.
