In My “Spare Time”
In My "Spare Time"
I got to spend last Saturday with a niece and two nephews. I talk about them a lot, I know. I can’t help it. They are so much fun, and I always learn new stuff.
This last time I was reminded of how much fun kids’ books can be. Erek is reading Diary of A Wimpy Kid right now as part of his homework. So, naturally, I had to pick it up to see what it was all about.
I’m not going to give away any spoilers, but I will tell you that I was pleasantly entertained. I also told him that I would read it with him and then when we were done with the first book, I would get us the second book.
You’d better believe I was at Barnes and Noble on Monday after work picking up that second book. I can’t help myself. I may have also picked up this one for myself…
The kid may be wimpy but he’s also pretty scrappy and a little clever. The thought process is right about where a middle school kid would be too.
While I was in Barnes and Noble, I spent a significant amount of time browsing through the kids’ section. I’d forgotten how much fun it can be to read those books. The best part is that I can read them while I’m in school because they’re actually a cerebral break from the brain-numbing stuff I have to read.
The other thing I realized is that nobody in that section knew that I didn’t have kids. They don’t have to know I’m buying kids’ books for myself. When I go back and pick up the first Vega Jane book, nobody has to know that it’s for me.
