Sand and Sea

Sand & Sea

Today took some planning and prep work. I had to send Jon to the grocery store last night to get some stuff so that we had enough sand to play with.

Book

Another one of Lucy’s favorites (we love books in this house, in case you hadn’t figured that out yet). We had this one already and the touch-and-feel aspect was cool.

Flashcards

Still only two. New words today included sand, sandwich, silly, and swimming.

Song

We did another video/song today. We just watched it the first time and then tried to sing it the second time. The kids were a bit distracted today because Jon was home from work for the holiday weekend and was filling up the swimming pool in the backyard.

Activity

I made some kinetic sand. I found a recipe for it here. It was … underwhelming.

There wasn’t anything wrong with the recipe, I just didn’t make a ton of sand and the kids were more excited about the pool than they were about the sand. They played in it for a little bit, probably just to humor me, and then really wanted to go in the pool.

The pool was just one of those inflatable backyard kiddie pools, but it was one we got at Costco so it was a Costco sized inflatable backyard kiddie pool.

It was a HOT day and our backyard gets super hot in the morning so they were loving being able to splash and play. Jon was out there with them the whole time.

All Done!

I probably wouldn’t do the sand again, but everything else was great. Some sort of sand art probably would have been better. I thought they’d like it, and I think they would’ve liked it more if we hadn’t had the pool out too, but it was also a little oily (even after putting tons of cornstarch in it), and generally just messy.

Besides… Now that we’re done with it, I’m not sure what to do with it…
